The Live Action Puppets Lil’ Monster Pattern is designed for beginners.  It uses minimal materials.  It does not require a sewing machine and has a full YouTube tutorial making it great for beginners whether adult or child.  It was designed with parents, teachers and non-profit organizations in mind so that making puppets is economical and accessible.  This is a digital PDF pattern you can download immediately and print on a standard home printer.

The pattern includes 4 base pattern pieces, plus 2 extra pages of optional pattern pieces to encourage unique customization.  It includes 10-step instructions as well as a full “build with me” style tutorial on YouTube.   To encourage creativity, planning and problem solving, it includes a design template so students young and old can plan ahead and purchase materials wisely and problem solve how to add unique elements.  Students will learn 2 hand stitches that are practical in real-life mending or future puppet building.  The secret to my arm-flapping mech is included as a bonus.  It gives life to the arms without the need for arm rods using simple pneumatic technology (a science opportunity for teachers;) by using a commercially available children’s Flipeez hat.
